REGIONAL WORKING GROUP: REGION III

Purpose, Objectives and Position Responsibilities

Purpose:

To provide spiritual, moral, and personal support to the Regional/Area Minister in the conduct of his/her life and ministry within the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches on behalf of the Associations within that region/area which he/she serves.

Expectations:

The Regional Working Group covenants to deal with all items which come to its attention with the utmost of confidentiality and impartiality and in an attitude of Christian love. It also covenants to approach all discussions, recommendations, and decisions with the strength and wisdom gained from God and His Holy Spirit through group and personal sessions of prayer. The Regional Working Group will normally hold four meetings per year. Other special meetings with Association Moderators or Officers would be in addition.

Objectives:

1. To assist the Regional/Area Minister to develop and use effective strategies for dealing with issues at personal, local, regional, and Convention levels such as: job expectations, pastoral support, church crises, personal and professional goal setting, time management, family commitments, and health.

2. To coordinate the ministries of the Associations in keeping with the Convention objectives to Evangelize, Teach, and Serve.

3. To provide a point of access for the Regional Minister to the Associations within the Region/ Area in addition to the Association Presidents and Moderators for purposes of communicating issues or suggestions in either direction.

4. To work with the Executive Minister of Convention to conduct an annual appraisal of the Regional Minister.

Structure:

The Regional Working Group is composed of one representative for each member Association, one of whom will be elected as Chairperson by the Group, plus a Secretary-Treasurer and the Regional/Area Minister.

Term of Office:

Except for the Regional/Area Minister, membership is for a three year term renewable once. (Initial members may serve fewer than three years to establish a rotation and allow continuity over time.)

Finances:

The Regional Working Group will be financed by means of an annual fee levied against each Association in that Region/Area. These funds will be used to cover administrative costs for the meetings of the Group including travel expenses for members to attend.

Roles:

Regional MinisterRev. Dr. John Weiler

An ordained pastor, appointed by Convention to provide a ministry of Spiritual leadership to the churches and pastors of that specific Region/Area of the Convention of Atlantic Baptist Churches.

He/she will bring to the Regional Working Group those issues from Convention, the Region/Area, or any local church which require his/her involvement and in which he/she believes the Regional Working Group can be of assistance. He/she will also bring personal concerns for support and wisdom from the Group.

Association Representative:

Albert - Mr. Dean Martin;            Mirimachi/North Shore - Rev. Daniel Cormier
PEI - Mrs. Ronda Smallman           WKBA - Rev. Dr. Rick Jackson

That person, ordained or lay, appointed or elected by his/her Association as its representative for a specified term. He/she will serve to support the Regional/Area Minister to meet the objectives outlined above and to be a channel of communication to the Regional/Area Minister on behalf of his/her Association. He/she will carry out these duties in a manner which demonstrates the expectations of confidentiality, impartiality, sincerity of prayer and Christian love. He/she will covenant to be faithful in attending all regular meetings of the Regional Working Group and to participate in other Regional events as requested by the Regional/Area Minister.

Chairperson: Rev. Richard Jackson

That member appointed from within the group to serve in this capacity for a term of one year. He/she will prepare an agenda for each regular meeting, in collaboration with the Regional/Area Minister. He/she will chair each regular meeting and will prepare copies of materials for discussion as required by the Regional/Area Minister. He/she will participate with the Executive Minister in an annual review of the Regional Minister.

Secretary: Mrs. Elizabeth Betts

That member from within the Region appointed by the Regional Working Group to maintain and circulate to the Group a record of regular Working Group meetings.

     Treasurer: Don Smith (Bathurst, M-NS)

He/she will also oversee the finances of the Regional Working Group meetings, notifying member Associations of annual fees and/or other funds required to meet expenses.
